A Goliath bet involves 8 selections combined into a huge 247 individual bets. The different bets are 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 four-folds, 56 five-folds, 28 six-folds, eight seven-folds and an eight-fold.
As the bets in a Goliath include doubles, you only need 2 out of your 8 selections to win to guarantee a return. If only 2 selections win, unless the odds were very high, it is unlikely to return a profit on your original stake. Although the risks of a loss are high, the potential returns if 5 or more of your selections win are huge.
As a Goliath consists of 247 bets, a £1 win-only Goliath would involve a stake of £247. Even with a 50p stake per bet, the initial outlay is still £123.50. It is also possible to place an each-way Goliath. This would double your initial stake making a £1 each-way Goliath £494.
