About Sun Bets
Sun Bets (www.sunbets.co.uk) is the new online betting arm of the Sun Newspaper brand, which is part of News UK. News UK also publishes The Times and The Sunday Times.
Sun Bets launched in the UK and Ireland in August 2016 and is a joint venture with Australia's largest gambling company Tabcorp, whose brands include TAB.com.au and Luxbet. Tabcorp's CEO David Attenborough signed the deal, an agreement to run for 10 years, with News UK's Chief Executive Rebekah Brooks in 2015. If Sun Bets is successful then the agreement could be extended.
Sun Bets will use Tabcorp's gambling technology and Tabcorp will hand over a share of revenue to News UK. Sun Bets aims to attract some of the existing customer base of the Sun Newspaper which has one of the largest readerships of UK newspapers. Over 50% of their readers already use bookmakers.
Chief executive of News UK, Rebekah Brooks said: "This is a hugely significant juncture for News UK and The Sun, marking the start of an era where new brands and revenue generating streams are being created on the back of the strength and much sought-after reach of The Sun."
Tabcorp chief executive David Attenborough said "Entering the UK market in partnership with News UK is an exciting opportunity for Tabcorp as we take our capability into the UK online gambling market. The Sun has more than 10 million readers per week and over one million football fans actively engaged through The Sun Dream Team FC fantasy football competition."
The Sun Bets campaign is headed by ex-England player and sports pundit Ian Wright, and racing journalist Matt Chapman and both will appear in a weekly blog on the site. The hashtag #YOUBETCHA is also being used to promote the site.
