The National Basketball League in Australia dates back to 1979. It was played in the winter season until 1998, when it became a Summer league, playing from October to April, to avoid competing with winter-season football.
The NBL has been sponsored by Hungry Jack's since the 2017/18 season and is also known as the Hungry Jack's NBL Championship. Hungry Jack's previously sponsored the league from 1988 to 1991. Previous naming rights deals have been with Mitsubishi, Hummer, Philips and iiNet.
The league's regular season consists of each of the 10 teams playing 28 games, 14 at home and 14 away, from October to mid-February. The top 4 teams at the end of the season advance to the finals.
In the finals, the teams that finish 1st and 2nd will receive home advantage in a best-of-3 game match-up. The winners of this round move on to the Grand Final, which is a best-of-5 series, with the final winner being the NBL Champion.
From the 2022/23 season, a change was announced to this format with Play-In games being introduced. The top 2 teams now advance to the semi-finals automatically, while the teams ranked 3-6th will play each other to compete for the other 2 spots.
The team with the best record overall is the Perth Wildcats with 10 wins, followed by Melbourne United with 6 titles.
The newest team in the league is the Tasmania Jackjumpers who entered in the 2021/22 season and made it all the way to the Grand Final before losing to the Sydney Kings before claiming their first title in the 2023/24 season.
You can place head-to-head bets on the outcomes of individual NBL games as well as Futures bets on the overall Championship winner.
